I am from Puerto Rico but right now I am living in Amherst, MA. I just finished my Ph. D. in Comparative Literature and I got a job at Middlebury College in Vermont. I was hired in the Spanish department for the Hispanic Visual Culture position and I will be teaching classes about Hispanic cinema and comics!
My favorite comic creators are in the following order: 1)Garth Ennis 2)Alan Moore 3)Gilbert Hernandez

I usually support Vertigo monthlies because they usually do outstanding stuff. This one is by one of my favorite creators so I am biased. I think it is a little surrealist and that is not for everybody. At this point in the series you dont know what is real or what is imagined by the main characters. That can be offputting to many readers. I cannot tell you that you should go back to the title but maybe you should get the first tpb and see if you are into the surrealist narratives. There is nothing wrong if you do not like it.

Hey man, I saw you are subbed to Young Liars and I was thinking about picking it up again. I stopped with issue #4 because it really had sort of freaked me out, especially the whole old people cruise ship scene.

Do you think the book is worth giving a 2nd shot? Finally, what made you pick up this series to begin with?

Dear Daynah

I was hired in the Spanish department so when I say Hispanic cinema, it includes national cinemas from Spain and Latin America. I am going to teach an advanced Latin American comics class but plan to create a first year seminar about international comics and their film adaptations (US, Japan, Latin America, Europe etc). So the comics part has to be used in a less nationalized manner. Keep in touch!

Will you be teaching comics and hispanic cinema, or hispanic cinema and hispanic comics? Oh how I love syntatically ambiguous sentences!
