So, I posted about this multiple Harvey Award nominee in the forum, but now that I see that there are no customer reviews…
The Sixth Gun takes place in the Old West, but it isn’t a Western. Furthermore, it isn’t “our” Old West. Imagine if The Lord of the Rings was adapted for the screen by Joe R. Lansdale and directed by John Woo with Sergio Leone as the Cinematographer.
The Sixth Gun is the perfect blend of action and dark fantasy that happens to take place in a Western setting.
The Sixth Gun centers around six mythical weapons created in Hell at the beginning of time and have always existed in one form or another (whatever is most culturally and technologically appropriate at the time; ie swords during the Crusades, six-shooters in the Old West).
Oh, and all six guns used together can end the world…
Of course, each gun has it’s own unique supernatural ability…also, each gun eventually corrupts the body and mind of the bearer.
With such powers, it is not a surprise that many people (read: spirits, zombies, mummies…that’s right, mummies! Look at the cover for #14!) will stop at nothing to possess the guns. Thankfully, our heroes will stop at nothing to keep the Six out of evil’s clutches…but how long can they hold out when carrying the weapons exacts such a terrible cost?
In terms of character, quality, consistency, genre mashup and the vision of two creators (writer and artist), there are few books on the stands that can compare…
I picked up this series based on a recommendation in the HI forum (and now a review.) I have to say that I haven’t been disappointed. I am up to issue four and I am thouroughly enjoying the series. It is a mix of several different genres and it is crafted in a way that it really works well. I normally avoid $3.99 comics, but I am happy to pay for the level of quality that I am seeing from this comic.
