Okay I suppose my first reaction to this story was “why is it moving so slow?” and “where’s the action?”
Moving away from those two complaints I see the writer is aiming solely for character development. The problem is that x-23 has as much character as a cardboard cut out.
Reading this story is like reading a tale about an unfeeling uninterested character searching for purpose. She’s not even really driven to find her purpose in life she just wanders around searching for a sense of self (and of course she bumps into x-men villains while she’s moseying about).
Also gambit is there to act as a piss poor jiminy cricket. He’s purely background, only speaking up to state that he’s got x-23’s back and not to mess with her.
X-23 was great in her first two limited series but this is just lame.
Perhaps a writer change could save this series or at the very least a different approach to the story.
liu has done a great job to help move x-23 along in this series. while i do think the previous mini series are a little bit better, this series is worth picking up.
the writing is always consistent, gambit is actually being written well and even the interaction with jubes was pretty good (even though i dislike the vamp jubes). i’m really interested to see where liu takes laura in the future.
also the art has been fantastic so far, but it’s had to beat choi on the target x mini.
