Rick Remender’s and Tony Moore’s love letter to classic EC Comics science fiction and Wally Wood in particular.
Our hero, Heath Huston, is not your prototypical, clean cut hero from the future. Oh no. Heath is the anti-Flash Gordon…the anti-Buck Rogers.
Heath is a Mark Twain quoting, alcoholic mercenary. The truth is, he isn’t even particularly likeable. But, Remender’s magic trick is to make you root for Heath despite his weaknesses and tragic flaws.
Heath Huston is a confluence of contradictions. Weak of character, but with a will of iron. Undisciplined yet sharply focused. Apathetic yet beyond driven. A family man who hates people.
Uncaring yet haunted by his sins.
And it all works, beautifully.
If you enjoy comics like Uncanny X-Force or the new Venom series, read Fear Agent and behold what you love about Rick Remender in its purest form. I don’t mean to downplay the contributions of the various artists, mainly Tony Moore and Jerome Opeña. It looks great and reads even better.
