Mark Louie Vuycankiat [Member Since: April 16 '09] (Mark Louie Vuycankiat) [Are you Mark Louie Vuycankiat?]

SLIGHTLY SIGNIFICANT INTRODUCTION: Born in ‘73, residing in the Philippines, pencils only comic artist.

my ART: I specialize and prefer drawing fantasy creatures, medieval (preferably Norse-inspired) characters, "monsters and freaks", post-nuclear themes, techno-magical/medieval themes, weird proportions and obscenely-buff characters… ...BUT not limited to this style. I have quite a bit of skill at character designing. I am better at character creation. (note: those two are entirely different skills).

my TOOLS: Most of the artworks posted here were done on an 8.5’ x 11’ eggshell drawing paper (some on bond paper and animation paper). I used a 2b "blue lead" with some 6b, 2b and (preferably)HB black lead. Now, I make use of .05 2b, .03 2b and .03 hb mechanical pencils for better detailing.

WORK PROCESS: Having 3 clients, I regularly produce 2-3 pages each client at the span of 6 days. If the script is "easy", I can produce more. The quality of work is always maintained, never diminished.

VISIONS of the PAST: My first job was a penciler in Entity/C.A.T.S. Comics. I worked on "Harriers 1-3" and "Aster 0". If you’ve seen it, keep in mind I was very young then and still needed a lot of improvement on my art. I worked on a full 11’x15’ page, used a 2b .05 mechanical pencil and a 2b 2mm. clutch pencil (black lead).

I then moved on to book illustrations in Marketing Horizons where I did the pencils for an informational/educational book, which I never got to see. The book was called Journeys and Superkids .
After that, I got some animation training in PASI Studios for a year which did not agree well with my art style. After a few years, I had another gig with cartoons... This time it's an IB/Clean-up training in Sunwoo Studios. Got hired after that.
Finally, I did some storyboard clean-ups under Art Director Yuri Timg in DigDeep Entertainment for a live-action (Hongkong) romance-comedy movie called "The Perfect Guy" the director/writer's name is Duc Lu... and that, ladies and gentlemen, is my work background.

COMMENTS on my WORKS: On Golem titles: "...Artist Mark Louie Vuycankiat teeters on the edge of cartoonishness, but just when you think he’s going to go ass over tits into cartoony-ville, he pulls off some really nice depictions of real world war and carnage." —www.aintitcool.com/node/38909

"The art is beautiful on Maja she has a quiet sexuality in the way she is drawn. All her tattoos are a sight to see."
